Moodle development: plugins, themes and integrations

Cubite's managed Moodle Growth tier ($1,190 a month) includes plugin development and a commerce storefront to sell your courses.

Development beyond that tier, or on a Moodle Cubite does not host, is $125 an hour, the one development rate Cubite publishes. The code Cubite ships is public: mod_bunnystream, a GPL-3.0 activity module for Bunny.net Stream video, and moodle-auth-cubite, the GPL-3.0 sign-in plugin behind the Cubite storefront.

What we build for Moodle

Plugins, themes and integrations that survive the next major-version upgrade, for Moodle 4.5 LTS and later.

Plugins

Activity modules, local plugins, blocks, authentication and enrolment plugins, built on Moodle's plugin APIs and the Hooks API so they survive the next major-version upgrade. The two plugins below are published under GPL-3.0.

Themes and branding

Boost child themes with your colors, fonts, login page and navigation, kept upgrade-safe. Branding and theming are included in every managed Moodle tier.

Integrations

Single sign-on with SAML 2.0 or OIDC (included in every managed tier), LTI 1.3 tools, SCORM and xAPI content, and your own systems through Moodle's web services API.

Video pipelines

mod_bunnystream, Cubite's open-source activity module, plays Bunny.net Stream video inside Moodle with token authentication, direct upload, completion tracking, gradebook integration and Moodle Mobile support, so video stops bloating your backups.

Selling courses

The Cubite storefront sits in front of your Moodle: course pages, Stripe checkout on your own account with no Cubite fee, automatic Moodle enrolment and one-click sign-in through moodle-auth-cubite. Free on a cubite.io subdomain; your own domain comes with the Cubite LMS Growth plan ($290 a month).

Upgrades and the AI subsystem

Version upgrades up to the current long-term-support release, Moodle 5.3 LTS, with same-day CVE patching on managed tiers, and configuration of the AI subsystem Moodle ships since 4.5 (providers and placements) for your site.

Pricing, published

The same numbers as on the Cubite pricing page. Managed Moodle Growth is the managed tier, not the Cubite LMS plan of the same name.

  • Stripe checkout on your own account, no Cubite fee
  • Automatic Moodle enrolment and one-click sign-in

Moodle code you can read before you hire us

Both plugins are published on GitHub under GPL-3.0, with the posts that explain why they exist.

mod_bunnystream

GPL-3.0

A Moodle activity module for Bunny.net Stream video: token authentication, TUS direct upload, encoding webhooks, completion and gradebook integration, and Moodle Mobile app support. Parity with Cubite's bunny-xblock for Open edX.

moodle-auth-cubite

GPL-3.0

The authentication plugin behind the Cubite storefront: JWT sign-in from the storefront into Moodle, catalog lockdown (Moodle 4.5 and later), profile sync and a multi-tenant admin bypass.

How it works

01

Discovery call

Thirty minutes on your Moodle: version, hosting, plugins in use, and what the platform has to do that it does not do today.

02

Scoped proposal

A written scope with the approach, the Moodle APIs involved and the estimate: inside your managed Growth tier, or at $125 an hour on any other Moodle.

03

Build on a staging copy

Development and review on a staging copy of your site, then a scheduled release to production with the upgrade path kept clear.

Moodle 4.5 and later ship an AI subsystem in core (text and image generation in the editor, summaries and explanations of course content, with providers such as OpenAI, Azure AI or a self-hosted Ollama model). Configuring those providers and placements for your site is Moodle development work, scoped like any other integration; Cubite LMS's own AI features are a separate product and are not installed into Moodle.
