After the StellarWP collapse, thousands of course teams are asking the same question: how do I get off LearnDash without breaking everything? The honest answer most guides skip is that the usual migration tools move your course structure but quietly leave your learners' progress, certificates and cohort history behind. This guide shows how a migration from LearnDash to Cubite is different - we move the entire site, verify every record, do it for you, and it is free. (Comparing every option first? Start with our LearnDash alternatives guide.)

How the migration works

  1. You send a read-only export: A copy of your LearnDash database export. Your live site is never touched.
  2. We run a free preview: We migrate everything into a private Cubite preview Site and reconcile every record.
  3. You review the verified count: You see exactly what moved, X of X records, nothing lost.
  4. You sign off, we go live: Once you approve a 100% match, we launch. The full migration is free..

What happened to LearnDash in 2026

If you are reading this, you have probably already heard the news. On April 22, 2026, Liquid Web announced it was dissolving StellarWP, the brand that owned LearnDash. The plugin still exists, but the company, team and roadmap behind it largely do not.

Why course teams are leaving LearnDash

The corporate drama is only half of it. Even before April 2026, the same day-to-day problems kept surfacing for teams running real programs.

  • Plugin roulette Every feature you want is another plugin, and updating one quietly breaks another. The discussion board and quizzes are the usual casualties.
  • Your data, just out of reach. Content built in tools like Genially or other SCORM packages lives on your site, but you cannot pull the analytics back out. You own the learners and not the insight.
  • You run the plumbing. Hosting, security patches, WordPress and plugin updates, and often three vendors who each assume the other is handling it. That is a lot for a learning team to carry.
  • Speed and reach. A plugin-heavy WordPress stack struggles on low-bandwidth connections - a real problem if your learners are global.

The catch nobody mentions: most LearnDash migrations lose your data

Here is the part most "how to migrate from LearnDash" guides skip. LearnDash's own migration add-on, and most competing tools, move your course structure - lessons, topics, quizzes - but leave your most valuable data behind.

Even Thinkific's own documentation admits that a LearnDash export "does not fully migrate elements like user progress, media files, or site configuration," and that larger migrations "require manual work or support from developers." In practice that means your learners restart from zero, their certificates vanish, and their cohort history is gone. For a live program, that is not a migration - it is a reset.

Cubite was built to close exactly that gap. We migrate the whole site from a read-only copy of your LearnDash database, and we verify every learner record before you go live. Here is how that compares to the typical LearnDash migration:

Will my data survive the move? See it for yourself

When teams evaluate a new platform, features are rarely the blocker. The blocker is fear - the fear that learner progress, hard-earned certificates and cohort assignments will not come across cleanly. It is a fair fear. So instead of telling you it works, we will show you.

Migrate a LearnDash site to Cubite

Press Migrate and watch a real LearnDash database move into Cubite (In this example we are migrating real Cubite Demo Learndash Site data to Cubite LMS) - every learner's progress, certificates and cohorts arrive intact.

Cubite migrates an entire LearnDash site from a read-only copy of your LearnDash database export. Every record is verified after it moves, so nothing is lost:

  • Course: Your course, with every lesson, topic and quiz kept in the right order.
  • Lesson content: All your written lessons and topics, with their formatting intact.
  • Quiz question: Every question and which answers are correct.
  • Learner: Each person who signed up - their name and email.
  • Enrollment: Who is enrolled in which course.
  • Progress: How far each learner got, and exactly where they left off.
  • Quiz attempt + score: Every quiz attempt with its score, pass or fail.
  • Certificate: Certificates learners earned, re-issued for them in Cubite.
  • Group assignment: Your cohorts and exactly who belongs to each one.

Learner progress, certificates and cohort assignments - the three most people worry about - migrate intact. In the interactive demo on this page, 31 of 31 sample records migrate with 0 lost and 0 skipped. Rare edge cases such as an unusual quiz type or a custom field are migrated by hand, and you sign off on a 100% match before launch.

How it works: your live LearnDash site is never touched (we only read a copy of your export), the full migration from LearnDash to Cubite is free and done for you, and you review and sign off on the record count before anything goes live.

How Cubite compares to the other ways off LearnDash

There are really five ways forward. Each is a fit for someone - here is the honest version of the trade-offs.

  • Stay on LearnDash. Lowest effort, highest long-term risk - you are betting on a platform with no team and a 2027 support cliff.
  • Another WordPress plugin (LifterLMS, Tutor LMS). You keep the WordPress maintenance, the plugin conflicts and the hosting burden, and their migrators still tend to drop user progress.
  • A hosted course platform (Thinkific, LearnWorlds). Clean to start, but you import manually, pay per active student, and hand your data and learner relationship to a platform you do not control.
  • Open edX. Powerful and open, but heavy to run and rough to administer without a dedicated technical team.
  • Cubite. A managed platform that migrates everything for you, free, while you keep ownership of your content, learners and analytics.

Own your learning data, do not just rent it

One problem LearnDash never solved is owning your learning data. Content built inside LearnDash is not SCORM compliant, and to get real tracking you have to bolt on an external Learning Record Store like GrassBlade. With Cubite, xAPI is built in: you can embed external or microlearning content, pull the analytics back into your own platform, and actually see what your learners do. When you move to a hosted competitor instead, that data - and the relationship with your learners - lives on their servers, not yours. With Cubite it stays yours.

LearnDash migration FAQ

The questions teams ask before they switch.

01Is LearnDash shutting down?
Not exactly. The LearnDash plugin still runs and gets security patches, but on April 22, 2026 Liquid Web dissolved StellarWP, the brand behind it. The original team, brand and roadmap are gone, and security support for several retiring features ends in April 2027. The platform is running, but the company that built it is not what it was.
02Will my learners lose their progress when I migrate?
With most LearnDash migration tools, often yes - they move course structure but not user progress. With Cubite, no. Lesson and topic completion, where each learner left off, and overall progress all migrate, and you see a verified count before anything goes live.
03Do certificates come across?
Yes. LearnDash does not store an issued-certificate record, so we detect everyone who completed or passed, map your certificate template, and re-issue the certificate in Cubite.
04Will the migration touch my live LearnDash site?
No. We work from a read-only copy of your export. Your live site keeps running, unchanged, the entire time.
05How much does it cost to migrate from LearnDash to Cubite?
The migration is free, and we do it for you. You only pay for Cubite itself. Compare that to a paid migration plugin plus developer hours.
06What happens to my quizzes and question banks?
Questions, answers, settings and scores all migrate. We read the LearnDash quiz engine directly, so nothing is rebuilt by hand unless you want it improved.
07Can Cubite replace our discussion board?
Yes. Cubite has a native, threaded discussion forum built in, so you can retire the plugin and the Padlet-style workarounds.
08Can I migrate from LearnDash to Cubite if I am not technical?
Yes - that is the point. You send one export, we handle the migration end to end, and you review a plain-language report. No plugins to wrestle and no developer required.
